Cell wall

Cell wall:-

With the exception of mycoplasmas,all bacteria have a cell wall.

Function of cell wall is to protect the cell and determine its shape.

Chemical composition:-

The important component of bacterial cell wall is Peptidoglycan.

Peptidoglycan is a large molecule and it contain two amino containing carbohydrates.

1. N-acetylglucosamine.
2. N-acetylmuramic acid.

These two molecule are joined by cross bridges of amino acid.

Types of cell wall:-

1. Gram Positive.
2. Gram Negative.
